Dominique is a renowned specialist in innovation grant funding, particularly noted for her expertise with Innovate UK funding.
Based in the North East of England, Dominique’s consultancy firm offers a comprehensive suite of innovation support services.
These services include business innovation funding strategy, grant application coaching and writing, as well as innovation project delivery, management, and monitoring.
Through her support and guidance, Dominique has directly enabled her clients to secure over £27 million in innovation funding.
Dominique is a contracted Innovate UK grant application assessor and regularly works as an expert under contract with the European Commission, supporting Horizon Europe evaluations.
Since 2015, Dominique has also been delivering project monitoring services to Innovate UK.
This role keeps her well-versed in Innovate UK’s innovation funding procedures. She has successfully monitored more than 60 Innovate UK innovation projects, spanning a wide array of fields, from energy generation and storage to sustainable fashion.
Dr. Dominique Morrison holds a PhD in Semiconductor Fabrication and has amassed over 15 years of industrial experience in developing new manufacturing processes within the photonics, electronics, and renewable energy sectors.
As the Head of Research for a renewable energy SME, she acquired extensive knowledge of Innovate UK and EC innovation grant processes, excelling in writing successful funding applications and managing large, collaborative innovation projects.
History
Dr. Dominique Morrison graduated from the University of Dundee in the mid 1990s, with an honours degree in Physics.
Her interest in materials and characterisation took her to the Newcastle University, where she attained a PhD entitled ‘The Fabrication and Characterisation of Silicon Carbide Devices’.
During her PhD, she gained valuable research and project management experience with her industrial sponsor, the UK Defence Research Agency, DERA (QinetiQ)
Dr. Morrison’s first industrial role was with photonics company, Bookham Technology (Oclaro), developing epitaxy (MOVPE) processes for III-V semiconductor LASERs.
In 2004, she returned to Newcastle to work on the technology development of silicon devices (0.13um CMOS), for Atmel North Tyneside.
These roles provided her with a firm foundation in volume manufacturing and strengthened her materials process and characterisation knowledge.
The opportunity to work in the renewable energy sector arose in 2008, when Dr. Morrison joined the Photovoltaic (PV) Division of the National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec) as a commercial researcher in silicon solar cells and modules.
The PV division of Narec later became a private company, where she became Head of Research, managing and delivering a £2.2 million portfolio of funded (EU and UK) and commercial research projects.
Through extensive networking and skilful competitive bid writing, she secured over £1.5 million in research funding for several new projects.
Her scientific career in the semiconductor and photovoltaic industries, has allowed Dr. Morrison to gain both technical and management experience in research, technology development and manufacturing.
She has an in depth understanding UK and EU research grant application processes and project management. Dr. Morrison is a Project Monitoring Officer (PMO) for Innovate UK and regularly works as an expert under contract with the European Commission supporting Horizon 2020 evaluations.
